Takahashi

Though primarily know for their high quality refractors, Takahashi has been offering reflectors in the U.S. since the mid eighties as well. Like the refractors, the mechanical and optical standard of these telescopes is impressive.

The basic Newtonian reflector design is encompassed in the MT series telescopes. The smallest of these models was the MT-130. This was a 5.1" f/6 optical tube with a 1 ¼" focuser and 6x30 finder. The next model, the MT 160, was a 6.3" f/6.2 telescope with a 1 ¼" focuser and 7x50 finder. The MT-200 was a 7.9" f/6 unit with the 1 ¼" focuser and 7x50 finder.

A Newtonian with a specially corrected hyperbolic primary mirror was created for wide fields of view especially sought after by astrophotographers. The Epsilon 130 was a 5" f/3.3 reflector w/ hyperbolic primary and four element field corrector lens. It provided a 5 degree wide field and very sharp images. The optical tube assembly was provided with 7x50 finder and 2" focuser. The Epsilon 160 was a 6.3" f/3.3 telescope with the same accessories. The Epsilon 200 was an 8" f/4 version, and the newer Epsilon 210 specs are 8.3" at f/3.3.
