Portaball was the name given to this unique truss-tube Dobsonian telescope. It could be viewed as a mega Astroscan with a spun aluminum ball replacing the standard alt-az arrangement. It had a superb 12½" f/4.8 optical system with either a 1 ¼" or 2" focuser and Telrad finder. In 1997 both a 10" f/5 and 8" f/6 model were added and in more recent years the ball material was changed to smooth fiberglass. | |
