Criterion Manufacturing Co.

Criterion had been manufacturing "Custom Dynascope" models from 6" through 16" diameter since the 1950's. These were excellent quality telescopes. Two less expensive models however were very popular and quite a few are still available today.

The RV 6 was 6" f/8 telescope with a 1 ¼" focuser and eyepieces, a moderate 1" shaft equatorial mount and clock drive. It also had a hinged cradle on mount to allow rotation of the tube. The RV 8 was introduced in 1971 as an 8" f/7 telescope with the same 1 ¼" focuser and eyepieces, equatorial mount and clock drive. The RV 8 was dropped and then reintroduced in 1981 after a nearly 8 year interruption in manufacturing, this time with f/8 optical system and manual declination control as standard.
