Accessories

Accessories are addressed here from the standpoint of value added when buying a used telescope. For detailed information on accessories you can see books such as "Star Ware" by Phil Harrington or "Astronomical Equipment for Amateurs" by Martin Mobberley. Here I simply provide some guidelines as to what to expect to pay for some of the most commonly used accessories. Generally it is true that buying accessories as part of a package is a lot less costly than buying them individually. Therefore if you have an opportunity to buy one of several telescopes that you want, and one has a lot of accessories for a modestly greater cost, buy the package with the accessories. If you find that you don't need all of the accessories, you can almost always sell them individually later, and more than recoup your difference in investment.
